THE VISION OF THMC….

“Put in your scythe and reap, for the hour has arrived to gather the harvest, for the earth’s crop is fully ripened.” (Rev. 14:15)

TORONTO, CANADA

Tamils in Toronto:
There are over 400,000 Tamils live in the city of Toronto, of them at least 90% are of Sri Lankan origin who migrated to Canada mainly because of the civil / ethnic unrest. Among this 90% of Tamil population, 70% account for families and the rest are singles including those who are either unable to or trying to bring their family members to Canada. In religious terms, 95% of this Tamil population are Hindus, 3% are Christians by origin, and 2% are born again Christians.

Pathetic situation:
However, most of the Sri Lankan Tamils who live here, - families, singles. youngsters, all inclusive - are living with the clutches of hell. In accordance with the recent statistics, divorce, suicides, addictions, deaths, sickness, murders, violence, etc are seen increasing among Sri Lankan Tamils.

Lord’s mission given to THMC:
As in Mark 6:34, "He saw a great crowd waiting, and He was moved with compassion for them, because they were the sheep without a shepherd." The mission of THMC is to reach our people, who suffer from sins, curse, sorrows, sadness and all other clutches of hell, with the Word of God, and make them realize that
Jesus, the spotless Son of God and Who knew no sin, died and then resurrected for their salvation,
He is the real shepherd and savior, and
He brings ever-lasting peace and happiness to everyone by His grace.

Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka, previously known as "Ceylon" until year 1972, has a population of about 18 million in an area of approximately 22,332 square miles. The population in this country consists of Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, and Burgers (Anglo-Indians). The country has three official languages - Sinhala, Tamil, and English. In religious terms, 74% of the population are Buddhists, 18% are Hindus, and rests are Musilims and Christians. Among them, approximately 2%- 5% are converted Christians.

People:
Sri Lanka, which gained independence from British rule in the year 1948, became almost a battleground since year 1983 due to communal / civil unrest. The communal / civil unrest was particularly among Sinhalese and Tamils. The country lost its peace and harmony, marched towards destruction and affected everyone's lives. People lost their hopes along with their wealth and in destitution started seeking refuge in other countries. This number is estimated to be over a million. Many took refuge and settled in India, Australia, United States of America, Europe, and Canada. We are also among those settled in Canada.

Status of those still in Sri Lanka:
Many, ever since the beginning of unrest, lost their families; became handicapped, orphans, widows and widowers; lost their wealth and possessions; and more of all their hope for a better future. Every war-torn area in that country became filled with army camps, police stations and security check points. There were transport restrictions, including for food and medicines, and curfew nights became part of normal living. In these conditions, people turned themselves to the Lord at last, trusting and looking for Him to give them everlasting peace.

Status of ministries:
Irrespective of the adverse impacts of civil unrest, ministries are growing vigorously, day by day. Many youths dedicated themselves to the ministries. They make every possible efforts to reach every one, in particular those who are badly affected by the unrest, with the words of God and preach gospel. These dedicated youths lead their lives by faith as they risk themselves in the course of their service, for which they do not even get paid. Although, there are many incidences where other religious fanatics attack these ministries and burn down churches, Christians are still growing by unshaken faith and prayers. There are 34,000 villages in Sri Lanka, of which at least 27,000 villages are still to receive Jesus as savior. Hence, these ministers continue to pray for opportunities to reach those people with the words of God, and also for required financial assistance.
